INCURSORE is the name of the Italian combat swimmers and also two-man torpedo sub of the second world war 1939-1945.

They were a small elite corps of less then 1000 men based in harbour towns Such as Genvova, Napels and Portoferraio . Their training was extreamly hard And long since they had to operate in the water for hours at a time, sometimes Days .

The way they operated was to ride – normally two men – on a cigar shaped Tube-like container full of some hundred kilograms of high explosive . They Had a simple flooding mechanism giving the ability to drive and resurface and Were driven by a battery/accumulator electric motor . They rode them horse-back style under the water or on the surface slightly immersed. Their main targets were aircraft carriers and battleships.

These two-man units were carried under the water by bigger u-boats and Released some 2 to 3 km from their target. They targeted mostley ships at Anchor in enemy controlled harbours and would come alongside the ship and Attach their explosive charges to the vessel by means of magnetic clamps. They would set the detonators for a delay of 30-60 minutes and then swim Ashore and hide while the explosives detonated. They often caused much damage to significant enemy ships which would put them out of commission for many months.

The English name for INCURSORE is INTRUDER.

KMU48 stands for KRIEGS und MARINE UHREN  (trans. Army & Navy Watch) and 48 = 48mm Watch Diameter.
